Pick it up. Tap it. A world opens.
A FunPod is a key, not a container. The pod tells your phone which world to open; the world itself lives in the FunPods app, ready to grow.
The 15-second version
-
Choose a pod
Each FunPod is a real object with its own artwork. Children choose with their hands, not by scrolling.
-
Tap it on a phone or tablet
Hold the pod near the back of an NFC-enabled phone or tablet running the FunPods app.
-
The world opens
The story, lesson, quiz or song linked to that pod starts. Tap another pod to switch.
What happens in that tap
For the curious: the journey from object to experience, in six steps.
- Physical FunPod A durable pod with an NFC chip inside. It stores an identity, not big media files.
- NFC tap The phone reads the pod at a few centimetres, the same way contactless cards work.
- FunPods app The app asks the FunPods service what this pod unlocks for this child.
- Identity and entitlement The pod is checked as genuine and matched to the experiences your family owns.
- Cache and cloud Content streams or downloads, then stays cached so it works offline next time.
- The experience Audio, story, lesson, quiz, game or AI conversation, adapted to the learner.
The practical details
-
No special speaker
In developmentYour phone or tablet is the player. There is no box to buy, charge or carry.
-
Android first
In developmentThe first FunPods app is being built for Android phones and tablets with NFC.
-
iPhone and iPad
Coming soonAn iOS app is planned after the Android launch.
-
Works offline
In developmentPods you have opened are cached on the device so they keep working without a connection.
-
Content that grows
In developmentBecause content lives in the app, a pod can gain new episodes, languages or extras after you own it.
-
Sharing and gifting
ConceptMoving a pod between family profiles, or gifting it, is being designed with parent approval built in.
Secure by design
- FunPods are being designed around secure NFC chips that support cryptographic authentication, so a pod cannot be cloned just by reading its serial number.
- Entitlement is checked by the FunPods service, not decided on the phone alone.
- No keys, secrets or personal data are stored on the pod itself.
- Child profiles stay private to the family account. There are no public child profiles.
